I am writing this message on 11 May, with two months to go until the Virtual ISI World Statistics Congress on 11-16 July. The preparation for the Congress has been an exciting journey so far!
The scientific programme is getting its shape with over 210 Invited Paper Sessions, more than 100 Contributed Paper Sessions and over 40 posters. The programme will be rich and diverse, covering many topics of our members’ interest. We have done our utmost to accommodate all statistical fields and cover the different time zones …
… so there is no reason why you shouldn’t register and attend the WSC. The early bird registration closes on 11 June, so make sure you register before this date to get a discounted rate. Also please don’t forget to pay your ISI or Association membership dues if you haven’t done so already in order to benefit from the reduced WSC fees for members. If you aren’t a member yet, sign up as soon as possible – apart from a discount on the WSC registration, you will also get the opportunity to participate in the ISI General Assembly and members’ network reception.
We will have a couple of distinguished speakers at the WSC: Kerrie Mengersen, ISI President’s Invited Speaker; Nain Laird, the 2021 International Prize of Statistics winner; and Robert Tibshirani, the 2021 Founders of Statistics Prize winner are among them.
Expand your professional network
The 2021 WSC is a virtual event, but our aim is to ensure a ‘true’ congress feel you can experience from your chair at home or in your office. Numerous social events for meeting old friends and making new acquaintances will be part of the WSC. One of the characteristics of the ISI Congresses is that statisticians from all over the world, from Africa to South America, young or senior, from academia or official statistics, have an opportunity to meet and build long-lasting friendships and networks.
The ISI Executive Committee and the ISI Permanent Office Staff look forward to meeting with you personally during the WSC. Don’t miss the chance for a meet and greet with us.
Strategic partners & sponsors
The WSC would not be possible without the support of our strategic partners including Statistics Netherlands, Statistics Flanders and De Nederlandsche Bank and our sponsors Esri, Leiden University Center for Statistical Science and Centre for Data Science and ASA, IPums and Wiley. A big thanks to all for supporting our Congress!
Short courses programme
At this moment the short course programme 2021 is taking place with twenty courses running consecutively up till 1 July. We are seeing a good number of attendees in the short courses and expect to repeat many of them in early 2022.
WSC 2025 in The Hague
Of course, we had hoped to show you our home city The Hague with its many beautiful spots, museums and the Scheveningen beach, but that will have to wait until 2025 when the ISI World Statistics Congress will return to The Hague as a physical event.
This time, I expect to see you virtually. The registration fees are very reasonable so don’t lose time and register now!
